A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to separate investors, not from any actual profit earned by the organization, but from their own money or money paid by subsequent investors. The Ponzi scheme usually entices new investors by offering returns other investments cannot guarantee, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent. The perpetuation of the returns that a Ponzi scheme advertises and pays requires an ever-increasing flow of money from investors to keep the scheme going.

By: Mitchell Zuckoff. It was a time when anything seemed possible–instant wealth, glittering fame, fabulous luxury–and for a run of magical weeks in the spring and summer of 1920, Charles Ponzi made it all come true. Promising to double investors’ money in three months, the dapper, charming Ponzi raised the “rob Peter to pay Paul” scam to an art form. At the peak of his success, Ponzi was raking in more than $2 million a week at his office in downtown Boston. Then his house of cards came crashing down–thanks in large part to the relentless investigative reporting of Richard Grozier’s Boston Post. A classic American tale of immigrant life and the dream of success, Ponzi’s Scheme is the amazing story of the magnetic scoundrel who launched the most successful scheme of financial alchemy in modern history.Book Title: Ponzi's Scheme: The True Story of a Financial Legend. By: Gary Anderson. The Ponzi Housing Scheme is the financial crime of the 21st century. It makes Madoff look like an amateur. The crime was sophisticated in it's plan, but not terribly complex to figure out. This crime violated laws on the books. It violated laws that should be on the books. And it violated the trust that people have with the banking community, and I can prove this violation reaches to the highest bankers in the land and off our shores. This crime is complex, but it is not rocket science. The proof of culpability can be known. We know that the international bankers have formed a sophisticated cartel. That cartel is made up of the central banks and the Too Big To Fail banks both in Europe and in the United States. It includes money market funds and shadow lenders of easy money. Government is supposed to have the power to regulate and take down badly behaving banks that breach the trust of the people. But the cartel has taken over, and I can prove it. I believe I have succeeded in assigning proper blame for the ponzi housing crisis and without clawbacks of ill-gotten gains and mass prosecutions, this system is lurking and waiting for another opportunity to establish the will of bankers upon the unsuspecting populace. It is not a question of if this behavior will repeat itself, but rather is a question of when. I believe that the banks had a plan to operate with less capital with Fannie and Freddie guaranteeing all manner of subprime loans. We know that they did not guarantee jumbos and many Alt-A loans, but subprime they did guarantee. Therefore, Fannie and Freddie were essential to kick starting the scam. We have seen how their monstrous child, MERS, has attempted to run around state governments in corrupting the recording of proper documents and notes. Fannie and Freddie did not take the scam to it's revved up and hurtful conclusion, however. Fannie and Freddie did not guarantee the majority of subprime loans and were not involved in writing the bulk of subprime loans at the height of the housing bubble. There is a must see chart included in this analysis on the last page of this book that shows proof of blame for the most odious manifestation of the bubble, as well as research. Understanding the housing ponzi in the light of the shadow banking system as set up at Basel 2 in 1998 will bring clarification as to where to place proper blame. Americans must learn this lesson as a people if we are to preserve ourselves and our children from these predators of the cartel. By: Charles Ponzi. Some believed his book was forever lost to history. Others assumed it was only a legend in the first place- just another in a seemingly endless series of bogus get-rich-quick schemes perpetrated by a master of the craft? Could it possibly be true? Did the world's most notorious con-artist, Charles Ponzi himself, actually write his memoirs- his own personal account of his ascendency from obscurity and poverty into staggering wealth, fame, and eventual infamy. By: Tyler Gray. It was the music that half the country hated and the other half couldn't stop listening to. It forever changed the formula for the music industry, and the groups that created it were called Boy Bands. During the Boy Band era, none were bigger than 'NSync and The Backstreet Boys, and together, they sold over one hundred and fifty million albums, dominating the television and radio airwaves for the better part of a decade. But, at the core of this squeaky clean pop phenomenon, there was a sinister, international fraud conceived by Lou Pearlman. It was uncovered by a simple accountant who was accidentally given access to Pearlman's entire operation.Pearlman is currently in Florida jail indicted on on three counts of federal bank fraud, and one count each of wire and mail fraud, charges stemming from a sinister investment scheme that bilked 1,800 investors out of a half billion dollars. His trial is currently set for February 2008. Tyler Gray, the only journalist to interview him in jail, tells the story about how Pearlman went from fending off star-struck teens to instead warding off angry investors demanding money and answers as well as the persistent rumors about alleged inappropriate relationships with his young boy band members. The book takes us through the journey that caused his real and phony worlds to collide, and tells about how he would ultimately find himself fleeing to Germany where he would later be arrested by the FBI. The last chapter will cover the trial itself, which promises to be chock-full with high drama.Book Title: The Hit Charade: Lou Pearlman, Boy Bands, and the Biggest Ponzi Scheme in U.S. History. By: Backgroundnow Staff. Allegedly, beginning in 2004 and continuing through at least August 2007, Sladich solicited hundreds of investors, most of them fellow members of her church, to invest money with her and her company, Kay Services, LLC. According to the Complaint, Sladich told these investors that she was partnering with a successful businesswoman who would be responsible for investing their money in real estate in the United States and abroad. Sladich promised investors that the investments were safe and secure and guaranteed 100 percent annual returns. The case alleges that there were no bona fide investments made and monies were spent for personal use. The Complaint is merely an accusation, and Sladich is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.Book Title: Marcia Sladich' Arrest In $10 Million Ponzi Scheme: Criminal Case 2:08-Mj-03135-Ps And Civil Case 2:08-Cv-04016-Sdw-Mca. By: Backgroundnow.com Staff. Castaldi allegedly made false representations to investors about investing their principal in his various businesses, as well as the source of the funds that he used to make their interest payments. At least five years ago, Castaldi allegedly began falsely telling investors that he was placing their money with financial institutions with whom he had a special relationship and would guarantee their principal and high returns. Instead, Castaldi obtained loans and used certain investors' principal payments to make interest payments to other investors, without disclosing the true source of the interest payments, the charges allege. In 2008 alone, Castaldi allegedly renewed or issued promissory notes bearing a total face value of approximately $68 million to $69 million, in many instances representing the face value of investors' initial notes plus the investors' accumulated interest which had been rolled back into the notes.Book Title: Frank A. | The following video was broadcast on MSNBCs Morning Meeting, Friday, July 24, 2009: Federal Reserve is a Ponzi scheme, an inside job Source: RawStory The Federal Reserve — the quasi-autonomous body that controls the USs money supply — is a Ponzi scheme that created bubble after bubble in the US economy and needs to be held accountable for its actions, says Eliot Spitzer, the former governor and attorney-general of New York. In a wide-ranging discussion of the bank bailouts on MSNBCs Morning Meeting, host Dylan Ratigan described the process by which the Federal Reserve exchanged $13.9 trillion of bad bank debt for cash that it gave to the struggling banks. Spitzer — who built a reputation as the Sheriff of Wall Street for his zealous prosecutions of corporate crime as New Yorks attorney-general and then resigned as the states governor over revelations he had paid for prostitutes — seemed to agree with Ratigan that the bank bailout amounts to Americas greatest theft and cover-up ever. Advocating in favor of a House bill to audit the Federal Reserve, Spitzer said: The Federal Reserve has benefited for decades from the notion that it is quasi-autonomous, its supposed to be independent. Let me tell you a dirty secret: The Fed has done an absolutely disastrous job since [former Fed Chairman] Paul Volcker left. The reality is the Fed has blown it. Time and time again, they blew it. Bubble after bubble, they failed to understand what they were doing to the economy. The most ... | |

| By DICK ARMEY Commentary Wednesday, Jul. 25, 2007 REFORMING retirement security in America is the greatest political opportunity -- and responsibility -- of our generation. Yet the topic of Social Security and Medicare is shockingly absent from Presidential hustings. Simply ignoring the problem does not mean it is going away. Thomas Saving, a trustee of the Social Security and Medicare programs, estimates a breathtaking $83.6 trillion unfunded liability in the two entitlements, which is a tremendous gap between promised obligations and what the government will actually collect in payroll taxes. Serious reforms of these broken government programs based on personal ownership have fallen victim to Republicans who don't dare and Democrats who don't care. Washington simply will not take the issue of retirement security seriously, until the American people force them to do so. After all of the political demagoguery and tactical missteps of last year's failed debate, what do the American people actually think about their retirement security under Social Security and Medicare? New survey data released by McLaughlin and Associates found that nearly nine in 10 likely voters are concerned about "catastrophic problems with Social Security and Medicare in the future that could directly affect the quality of [their] retirement." These findings transcended party lines. The core problem is not merely one of solvency. We could balance the books tomorrow by drastically slashing benefits ... |
